It is my privilege to announce the arrival of the first shipped container of an exotic new liqueur "USSURIYSKI". Imported directly from the Russian Far East, this herbal infused conyac, appears on the American Market for the first time in its 104 year history. The "Ussuriyski Balzam" Joint Stock Company has distilled spirits at their facilities through a rich history of Czars, Communist, Exiles and now the Russian free market. It is located in the small town of Ussuriysk, about an hours driving time inland from the Russian Federations largest Pacific Port, Vladivostok.
I discovered Ussuriyski (pronounced "ooh-soo-ree-ski") in my Humanitarian travels to the Russian Far East in 1994. It seemed that every Russian I met had a reserve bottle for toasting special occasions and proudly poured Ussuriyski. Because of its rich blend of herbs found beneath the dense canopy of the Russian Taiga (forest), many of Russians proclaim its use for health reasons. Many of these herbs are found only in the Russian Far East and unrecognizable by name, but a few like, Ginseng, Currant and various Berries are very detectable in it's deep, multi-faceted taste. Natural gain spirits and conyac fuel this incredible Ninety Proof liqueur. It can be enjoyed straight, over rocks, with coffee or tea, blended over ice with another vodka (clear) called a Black Vodka, try a "Red October" a mixture of grenadine and Ussuriyski over ice or use it in a Black Martini, but don't limit your imagination Ussuriyski it's sure to tantalize the most discriminating taste bud.
